    This autumn Alexeeva & Jones is partnering with The Dalmore Whisky to introduce a chocolate and whisky pairing menu. We, with a selection of luxury chocolates from over twenty of the world's best artisan chocolatiers, and the Scottish distillery have created a menu of five drams paired with five chocolates, carefully selected to enhance and compliment each other.

    We wanted to create an exclusive menu for those who enjoy the finer things in life, designed to enthuse both chocolate and whisky fanatics. As the days turn cold, customers are invited to tuck themselves away in the warm and welcoming shop, and follow the tasting notes provided to guide them through five pairings.

    For example,  The Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve and Franck Daubos' Raspberry truffle,  Franck Daubos' Raspberry truffle enhances the red fruit aroma of The Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve. Tropical fruits, banana toffee and vanilla ice cream are all accentuated in this expression, by Daubos' fruity chocolate.

    The entries will be judged by the business founders, Natalia Alexeeva & Gareth Jones, who will choose 1 winner and 2 runners-up to receive some delicious chocolate goodies. The winning entries will also be displayed on our website.

    To participate, please note the following:

    1. Entries are welcome from all participants between the ages of 3-7 years.
    2. Entries should be on A4 or A5 paper or card and may use pencils, paints, crayons and/or pastels.
    3. All entries should be marked with the entrant's name, age and contact details (telephone number preferred) in capitals on the back of the entry.
    4. All entries should be sent to Natalia Alexeeva, Alexeeva & Jones, 297 Westbourne Grove, W11 2QA either by post or by hand by 5pm on Saturday, 19th March 2016.

  • 5 baking tips for the best chocolate brownies

    Inspired to make your own homemade treats? Check an easy recipe for brownies from Alexeeva & Jones, along with our expert advice on how to make sure they’re gooey and delicious

    1. Brownies don't require that many ingredients so the star of the show - the chocolate - needs to be good! Use the best quality chocolate.

    2. Bring your ingredients to room temperature before starting to cook. They will combine much better that way.

    3. Melt the chocolate and butter slowly otherwise you burn out some of the delicate flavours of the chocolate, and the eggs can start to scramble.

    4. Don't under-bake your brownies. The sought-after 'gooey-ness' will come from the mixture being right, not from taking them out of the oven early.

    5. Leave the brownies to cool properly as they then come out of the baking tray more easily and neatly, if you can resist! They can be re-heated in 15 seconds in a microwave, or you can add a hot chocolate sauce! This goes well with cold ice-cream - we recommend the Purbeck Vanilla Bean.

    Martin is a leading voice in the fine chocolate industry, passionate about the promotion and preservation of fine chocolate and cacao and with 20 years' experience as an expert in tasting and promoting fine chocolate.

    Martin has travelled extensively visiting cacao plantations, networking with the world's top cacao and chocolate producers and actively supporting those who grow or work with fine cacao.  He is also Judging Director of the International Chocolate Awards, which he founded in the UK with Kate Johns of Chocolate Week.

    He co-created the Chocolate Tasting Certificate Course, the first such course in the world, which teaches people the skills to recognise and truly appreciate fine chocolate.

    Come and join us with Martin for an evening of chocolate exploration. Using fun and innovative sensory games, Martin will share with you the depth of his chocolate knowledge, sharing tips and introducing you to new ways to enjoy fine chocolate.

    This is a great opportunity to find out everything there is to know about the range of Italian famous chocolate maker - Guido Gobino. 

    Guido Gobino has been a hugely popular range since we introduced it to our shop in May 2013. Based in Turin, their range is inspired by local ingredients and traditional artisanal methods of production.

    The town of Turin has long been revered for the flavourful hazelnuts that grow in the area and the speciality that they are used to produce - gianduja, a smooth hazelnut and chocolate praline which melts as soon as it hits the tongue. Trained and guided by his father who managed the company before him, Guido Gobino is a true specialist in gianduja and works hard to preserve the traditional regional recipes as well as creating new innovations in flavour and texture, such as the Sea Salt & Olive Oil Cremini. As well as creating gianduja, Guido also makes his base chocolate from the cocoa bean itself, which gives his chocolates a truly distinctive set of flavour notes.

    We are delighted to announce the arrival of famous chocolatier Damian Allsop’s new sea-water ganaches, in-store and at alexeevajones.com.

    The new ganaches, available exclusively through Alexeeva & Jones in the UK, are made with filtered Spanish Seawater. 

    Allsop has earned himself a reputation as one of the world's very best chocolatiers, now creating delicious masterpieces in his kitchen in Catalunya, Spain to where he recently relocated. Having experimented with removing the cream and butter from a classic ganache recipe and replacing it with water, he discovered how he could intensify the flavours of chocolate dramatically. Having established himself as the inventor of the water ganache, which he previously used spring water to create, he has now developed a new sea-water ganache, the like of which has , never been done before.

    Damian has been referred to as the 'Merlin' of the chocolate world, coaxing flavours out of chocolate that were never thought to be possible. The new sea-water ganaches mark yet another break-through in chocolate making, and deliver a fresh, light, pure tasting chocolate quite unlike any other.

    This will be a rare opportunity to meet Bertil Akesson, founder of Akesson's, who will speak about his experiences as a bean-to-bar chocolate producer and to taste some of his highly-awarded chocolate bar range.

    Akesson will talk about how he carefully chooses the varieties of cocoa used in each bar and pairs with ingredients cultivated in the same plantations. Guests will also participate in a tasting trying 5 of Akesson's bars.

    As one of the most successful fine cocoa-producing plantation owners, Bertil Åkesson of Åkesson's Fine Foods oversees the entire process of making chocolate from the cocoa bean to chocolate bar, which allows him to create a very distinctive style of chocolate. Join us to hear about Bertil's approach to the world of cocoa and sample some of his stunning chocolate bars from Madagascar, Brazil and Bali.

On sale from Chocolate Week on 13th October, 10% of the proceeds from each of the deliciously decadent hampers will be donated to the Rugby Portobello Trust, a charity that helps local young people to build their community by providing facilities, skills, activities and guidance to support and develop them to reach their potential and become healthy, happy and productive adults.

    Guido Gobino has been a hugely popular range since we introduced it to our shop in May 2013. Based in Turin, their range is inspired by local ingredients and traditional artisanal methods of production.

    The town of Turin has long been revered for the flavourful hazelnuts that grow in the area and the speciality that they are used to produce - gianduja, a smooth hazelnut and chocolate praline which melts as soon as it hits the tongue. Trained and guided by his father who managed the company before him, Guido Gobino is a true specialist in gianduja and works hard to preserve the traditional regional recipes as well as creating new innovations in flavour and texture, such as the Sea Salt & Olive Oil Cremini. As well as creating gianduja, Guido also makes his base chocolate from the cocoa bean itself, which gives his chocolates a truly distinctive set of flavour notes.

    We will be tasting the Pacari Raw range: Salt& Nibs, Andean Blueberry, 70%, 85% and 100% and Tamara will be with us again to talk about the chocolate itself and the fascinating background of Pacari. Pacari Chocolate is a line of premium organic chocolate and the first single-origin organic chocolate made entirely at source in Ecuador from "Arriba Nacional" cocoa beans. Manufacturing in small batches with beans purchased fairly from small Ecuadorian producers, Pacari brings you an unforgettable chocolate experience.

    The town of Turin has long been revered for the flavourful hazelnuts that grow in the area and the speciality that they are used to produce - gianduja, a smooth hazelnut and chocolate praline which melts as soon as it hits the tongue. Trained and guided by his father who managed the company before him, Guido Gobino is a true specialist in gianduja and works hard to preserve the traditional regional recipes as well as creating new innovations in flavour and texture, such as the Sea Salt & Olive Oil Cremini. As well as creating gianduja, Guido also makes his base chocolate from the cocoa bean itself, which gives his chocolates a truly distinctive set of flavour notes.

    To celebrate the launch of the Guido Gobino range in our store, Loredana Ligori, Marketing Manager at Guido Gobino, will be visiting us from Turin to hold a special sampling session on Saturday 4th May between 1.30-5.30pm to introduce clients to the Guido Gobino philosophy and some of their delicious chocolates.

    It is the ideal opportunity to try some of their unparalleled giandujotti alongside some new trial products, including chocolate-coated cocoa beans and fruit jellies, which Loredana is bringing specially for the event.

    Chocolate supplier to Albert Roux and Holyrood House, Iain is dedicated to sourcing the very best of local ingredients and combining them with exotic spices from around the globe to create different flavour sensations. Having trained extensively with French, Belgian and Swiss masters, Iain has chosen elements of each of these traditions to create his own unique artisanal style.

    On Tuesday 30th April, Iain will be conducting a tasting session of different single origin chocolates, taking us on a guided journey from the cocoa bean to the finished chocolate bar and culminating in his celebrated Cocoa-Dusted Velvet Truffle™.

    The entries will be judged by the business founders, Natalia Alexeeva & Gareth Jones, who will choose 1 winner and 2 runners-up to receive some delicious chocolate goodies. The winning entries will also be displayed on our website.

    To participate, please note the following:

    1. Entries are welcome from all participants between the ages of 3-7 years.
    2. Entries should be on A4 or A5 paper or card and may use pencils, paints, crayons and/or pastels.
    3. All entries should be marked with the entrant's name, age and contact details (telephone number preferred) in capitals on the back of the entry.
    4. All entries should be sent to Natalia Alexeeva, Alexeeva & Jones, 297 Westbourne Grove, W11 2QA either by post or by hand by                                  5pm on Saturday, 30th March 2013.

    Robert (a.k.a. The Roving Sommelier) is an award winning sommelier and now a London-based independent wine specialist, food, wine and travel writer, book author and blogger. He has a passion for food and wine, including more than 20 years experience within the hospitality industry. Robert has been a top-flight sommelier and restaurant wine buyer since 1997, having been in charge of the wine at high profile London establishments such as Oxo Tower, La Tante Claire, Fifth Floor at Harvey Nichols and Orrery Restaurants. He hosts regular wine tastings and food and wine matching master classes where people can enjoy matching tastes and flavours together in a very relaxed and convivial environment.

    Alexeeva & Jones, specialist retailer of luxury handmade chocolates from the world’s leading chocolatiers celebrated the launch with Notting Hill locals and chocolate lovers in a series of chocolate tastings hosted by some of their master chocalatiers. Damian Allsop who supplies Michelin starred restaurants such as the local Ledbury kicked things off with a lively tasting of his Pure water based chocolates, followed by Scottish Master Gourmet chocolatier Iain Burnett, The Highland Chocolatier who ran a tasting alongside some Scots Malts to match and Centho-Chcolates ended the series with a tasting of gorgeous layered chocolate ganaches.
